What are the things that you want in life? Everyone wants something… So, do you even know what you want out of life, or do you feel indifferent to what life has to offer you, choosing not to place the thought or energy it takes in order to find out how to make your hopes and dreams into a reality? Because we all have dreams of what we want to accomplish or ideas of what we want our life to be like; it’s just that some people live their life in a proactive way in order to make their dreams a reality, while others have either lost hope or in some way have made the decision to indirectly pursue a lifestyle of unhappiness.

One of the greatest men in the 20th century, Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., wrote a speech called ‘I Have A Dream’. He lived his life pursuing that dream; which was ultimately to a great extent fulfilled, though he did not see it in his lifetime. In his speech his hopes  and dreams for change in America was very evident, as he wrote…

“I have a dream that one day this nation will rise up, live out the true meaning of its creed: “We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal…..I have a dream that my four little children will one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by the color of their skin but by the content of their character.[1]

Living in Hollywood for the past year, I come across so many people who come out here just to pursue the hope or dream they have for their life. They want to become an actor in film or television, be a fashion model, work in the entertainment industry, or simply just live a lifestyle of the rich and famous. However, I see that most of them become professional waiters and waitresses, professional beggars, couch surfers, and end up living depressed lives because they are constantly rejected by casting directors and they realize that what they had hoped and dreamed for isn’t their reality.

But, not everyone in Los Angeles is high on mary jane and depressed…Yes, I have also met those who have found contentment and peace working as a professional actor, or who have found stable employment in the entertainment industry. Some people say that it’s better to try and fail, than to never have tried at all. And, I would agree with that.

So what are your hopes and dreams?? Are you willing to sacrifice everything to pursue it? Have you lost hope in pursuing your dream? What is your “I Have A Dream” speech? If you desire to make your dreams a reality or seek to gain clarity, focus and direction in life, knowing the answer to these questions are very important. Write out your own “I Have A Dream” speech and see what’s in your heart.
