The “IT” Factor

Everything in this universe at its very essence, is a jumbled up conglomeration of protons, electrons, and neutrons… just bouncing around every which way uncontrollably. From the sun, to the earth we live in, to our very bodies we take care of every single day. So, what causes one dog to be friendlier than another, or what is it that causes one person to be blessed/loved and someone else not?

I call it the “IT” factor. Some have “IT” and others just don’t. Period. So, the question is… what is “IT” exactly? And, how does someone go about getting “IT“?

Ok… if you don’t know who Charlie Chaplin is, you should probably read up about his life. He was a kid who grew up with little to nothing, he was just another uneducated poor kid in London, England. His mother was even placed in a mental asylum, when he was just 14 years old! At first glance you would think his life would either bring him to crime, or at best he would turn out to be a skilled worker. But, opportunity came his way to work in comedic plays and theatre productions as a young teenager, and he excelled in it so much, that over time he became one of the most famous people in the world. So, what made Charlie shine brighter than the other people around him? You’ll find out at the end of this blog, but anyone can see that he definitely had “IT“.

There is a story in the Bible that I will reference. It basically says that things happen to people not because of what they do, but because of who they are. This is a passage from Romans 9:10-13 [NLT].

10 This son was our ancestor Isaac. When he married Rebekah, she gave birth to twins. 11 But before they were born, before they had done anything good or bad, she received a message from God. (This message shows that God chooses people according to his own purposes; 12 he calls people, but not according to their good or bad works.) She was told, “Your older son will serve your younger son.” 13 In the words of the Scriptures, “I loved Jacob, but I rejected Esau.”

I believe that the “IT” factor is not something that specifically brings fame and wealth… that’s a misconception. The “IT” factor will draw your attention to someone, it is the difference between us, that makes a difference. I remember reading about Muhammad Ali, someone wrote about him saying, “he said he was the greatest, even before he knew he was.”

There are some things that are chosen for you, while others you choose for yourself. I listed 6 things below that I feel make up what determines if you have the “IT” factor; it will cause others to be drawn to your light, because in some way you will be an asset to their lives.

  • Destiny – A person’s unique life experience affects their destiny… I feel that a person’s destiny lies in the unknown unique purpose that God has for them.
  • Decisions – Everyone has a choice, and every choice has its repercussions. Wisdom helps us know which decisions are better than others.
  • God-Given Talent – Some people are just blessed with physical beauty or strength, intellectual or artistic genius, or some ability that they didn’t develop.
  • Opportunity – Not everyone is granted the same opportunities. There probably could be many great athletes, scholars, musicians, artists, etc.. that never had the opportunity to showcase and develop their talents.
  • Passion – This is something that causes the world around you to align with what you want to happen. A passionate person speaks things into existence.
  • Work Ethic – What you put into something will determine what you get out of it. A person’s work ethic can separate them from others.
