Relationship Philosophy

There is a void that needs to be filled in everyone’s life. For some that void is like a great empty hole that lies deep inside their heart. That void in many cases is rooted by the need to give love… and to be loved.

Love requires relationship. There is no way to give love or to receive it, if there isn’t anyone to give it to or receive it from.

A lot of people would rather do everything by themselves; because it takes so much energy to work with others, and most people would rather not work with anyone else, if they didn’t have to. It does takes energy to build relationships (it’s not easy), therefore it will take energy to fill that looming void of unfulfilled love.

I remember a time in high school where our history teacher gave a group project that specifically detailed the biography and accomplishments of like 20 or 40 different historical people, in a research paper format. Though I don’t really recall all that went into the research paper, I do know it took everyone on our team to complete that paper… and we all worked hard on it!! And the day before it was due, our group worked on it all day Sunday, throughout the night into the early morning in a classmate’s parent’s office (thank God for that office). As I saw the sun rising Monday morning, I was still working. Either before or around that time everyone left to go home to clean up for class; I couldn’t because I didn’t have a car. I remember printing out the paper about 15 minutes before class started that Monday morning! It was the most challenging research paper I’ve ever done in my life 🙂 . Though I don’t remember any of the people I researched, that experience of working in a group helped me understand the value of relationships… because I know I couldn’t have completed that paper by myself, but as a group we completed it.

Relationships require sacrifice. Right now in my life I’m looking for someone to love… I’m looking for someone to share my life with… I’m looking for a wife. Some people tell me, “Jason, you’re a bright, intelligent, good looking guy… why is it so hard for you to find dates? Or find a wife? You must be looking in the wrong places.” Well, there are plenty of fish in the sea; and I could find someone to settle down with without too much effort. However, one thing that is so hard for me to do, is finding someone who values what I have to offer.

How can someone who would give their life as a sacrifice, be united with someone who has trouble just giving their time?

In order for me to feel loved by someone, I have to feel that they value me. They have to make me feel that I’m special. How can I commit my heart to someone who doesn’t make the time to answer my calls, or someone with excessive self-imposed responsibilities, or someone who doesn’t understand or value sacrifice?

Amos 3:3 NLT – “Can two people walk together without agreeing on the direction?”

It can sometimes seem as though everyone in my life is going in a different direction. It’s like when I used to walk down the busy sidewalks of downtown Los Angeles… there were so many people all going in different directions, living their lives. For a good relationship to occur, both people have to want the same thing. Period. Nevertheless, I want to hold the hand of someone who wants to walk beside me in the direction God has given me. All I need to know is who’s down to go with me, because I’m tired of walking by myself.
