That Loving Feeling

It’s been a while since I’ve written about love and relationships as it really hasn’t been on my mind. Sometimes we can go through seasons of life where we are emotionally in a perpetual state of exhaustion. Spending so much energy trying to do so much, to where you lose yourself forgetting the things that you live for… and for a country boy like me, life is all about love.

I find so much pleasure in pursuing the things that I love, spending time with the people (family & friends) who love me and I love, listening to music and singing songs that make me remember what it feels like to be in love (Marvin Gaye & Tammi Terrell – Precious Love), and who doesn’t enjoy making love with your special someone 🙂 .

However, lately I can’t help but to feel like I’ve lost that loving feeling, as I’ve made some poor decisions to say the least and I’m currently facing the repercussions of those decisions. And, life for most adults can get very busy doing things like: mending broken relationships, finding peace of mind, taking care of our family, planning for the future, making money, or simply finding a way to take care of ourselves. While we forget that we have to set aside some time to invest in the things that make us who we are.

I just listened to the 80’s song with the techno beat “What is Love” … I honestly laugh every time I hear that song because it was played so much in Saturday Night Live skits and various comedic movies. But, when I listened to the lyrics of the song it really was like a poem of my same feelings.

What is love? Baby don’t hurt me no more.
I don’t know why you’re not fair
I give you my love, but you don’t care
So what is right and what is wrong?
Gimme a sign… What is love?

Oh, I don’t know, what can I do?
What else can I say, it’s up to you
I know we’re one, just me and you
I can’t go on…. What is love?

Lyrics – “What is Love”

So what does love look like to you? Do you feel loved? Do you feel you have the ability to give and show love to someone at this point in your life?

Just spending some time talking to one of my coworkers last night really made me feel the warmth of the sun coming up over the horizon… to where I can see a glimpse of a brighter tomorrow. Knowing that another season of life is right around the corner.
